Boom and Scissor Lifts

Do not operate boom or scissor lifts unless you are trained and authorized. Thorough knowledge of equipment including the Operator’s Manual is essential.

Before UseInspect the equipment before each use. Make sure the controls are working properly.
Risk AssessmentBoom lifts require a risk assessment that is reviewed with your supervisor or a competent person.
Tie Off Tie-off is required using fall restraint in boom lifts. Follow manufacturer instructions for tie-off procedures in scissor lifts.
Work PlatformKeep your feet on the work platform. Never stand on the guardrails, midrails, toeboards or other material to gain height.
Overhead Conditions Be aware of overhead conditions, obstructions, and power lines. Avoid a situation where you could become pinned between the guardrail and an overhead structure or utility.
Lift CapacityNever exceed the rated capacity of the lift. This includes personnel, tools, and materials. Materials should not extend beyond the confines of the guardrail system. Lifts should never be utilized as a material hoist.
Lift MovementPlan the movement of your lift to ensure the path is free of personnel, materials, cords/hoses. Use a spotter in congested areas and make sure you have enough clearance when passing through doorways. If you are moving the lift with the controls outside of the platform, pay attention to where your feet and body are in relation to the wheels and structures.
